Live a happier life with these secrets

Happiness has become elusive to most of us. This is because our brains have become accustomed to remaining in the survival mode. Sure, there are temporary moments of elation and bliss. However, most of us stay plagued with constant negative emotions.

How does one find happiness? Just like all other things in life, it takes persistence and practice to nurture internal joy. We have to rearrange our baseline. This will not happen overnight, but here are some things you can do for discovering the secrets of staying happier.

  • Focus on the positive.
For you to sustain happiness, you will have to rehabilitate your brain from a pessimistic mindset and start moving towards a positive mindset. There are a few things you can do, spend a few minutes every day searching for positive things in your life. When you do this for twenty-one days, you will start to form a habit.

You can also select a positive mantra to say to yourself every day. Repeat something like, “I am so thankful for all I have.” Also, if things are not going your way, try to see the positives.

  • Celebrate little victories.
As they say, life is a series of ups and downs, but you will always have hundreds of small victories that may go unnoticed. Always take out time to celebrate small wins.

Be proud when you check off everything from your to-do list. Did you finally clear out the dishes? Take pleasure in smaller achievements.

  • Maintain a work–life balance.
Most of us have to work for at least eight hours a day. But it should not consume our entire day. It is very important to take part in activities and develop interests beyond work. Are you spending enough time with friends and family? Do you follow your dreams? Do you get enough exercise? Creating a work life balance will decrease stress and offer you numerous outlets for expressing yourself and having a lot of fun.
  • Mindfulness meditation.
Mindfulness mediation basically brings your attention and awareness to the existing moment. It is about being accepting and nonjudgmental about your feeling. When you practice mindfulness, you start living in the present, curious and aware. Having acceptance of what you are going through reduces stress and assists in perceiving situations just the way they are. With mindfulness, you can find affirmation and peace within yourself.
  • Stay creative.
Creative activities can make you really happy. If you spend time using your imagination and coming up with creative ideas, you will have more enthusiasm and are bound to have feelings of positivity and long-term happiness. Creative activities include painting, writing, musical performance and drawing.
  • Accept flaws.
Most of us strive to be perfect– we push ourselves to be the best version of ourselves. However, to be happy, you have to accept and embrace your imperfection. It is impossible to be perfect and holding anyone to such standards is unfair.

You must accept that life, in general, is imperfect and acknowledge that there is grace and beauty in that imperfection.
